Mary Wood, widow of former flagman Clyde Wood, was honored on the front stretch as she was met by friends and family and presented a boquet of flowers. Clyde was flagman at countless speedways for over 35 years. Sunday night’s program was presented by the Wood family and Double-X Speedway in memory of Clyde and to honor his service in the racing industry.
California, MO(July 24, 2011)-Finally shaking the bad luck that has plagued him over the past few weeks, Mark Shirshekan picked up his first Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior region win on Sunday in the Ninth Annual Clyde Wood Memorial at Double X Speedway.
Shirshekan set a torrid pace running the cushion as he was chased by dash winner Jonathan Cornell over the first few laps until action was stopped on lap eight for a Matt Close roll over in turn one. A lap later, Jay Russell suffered front end damage on the front stretch which would end his night.
Once green again, Shirshekan was followed by Cornell and Randy Martin until the yellow flag was waved on lap sixteen for a Brad Loyet spin in turn four that forced Bryan Grimes to come to a stop as well. Both would continue.
Shirshekan again took off on the cushion as Cornell got a good run on the bottom and used a perfect slide job to take the lead. Cornell would lead the next pair of laps until getting too high on lap nineteen allowing Shirshekan to out drag him down the straightaway and back into the lead.
Cornell was given one last shot when Chad Corken spun off of turn four to bring out the yellow after twenty laps had been completed.
Shirshekan drove perfectly on the cushion and went on to his second career Warrior win in his Cooper Racing Products J&J powered by a Wesmar motor. Cornell was a solid second in the Kiowa Line Builders/VKCC Motorsports Ostrich-powered Maxim. Martin was third in his Diamond Pet Foods J&J with a Roush-Yates Ford under the hood. Tyler Blank came on strong late to take fourth as Kyle Bellm rounded out the top five.
Heat races for the twenty-eight car field were won by Sean McClelland, Adam Jones, Cody Baker, and Martin while Jay Russell won the B Feature.
Haley Arnold was uninjured after contact from another car sent her into a wild series of flips while leading her heat.
Cole Melby of Sedalia was the Clyde Wood Memorial micro midget winner for the third straight year. Melby was followed by Dean Hathman of Columbia and Nathan Benson of Concordia. Corey Nelson of Eugene and Scott Hathman of Columbia rounded out the top five.
John Brooks of Warrensburg just edged Ray Smith of Centertown for the win in the Cooper Racing street stocks. Following closely behind the lead pair was Tim Cressley of Tipton and Andrew Roark of Tipton. Point leader John Clancy of California rounded out the top five.
In the Robbie D’s Hobby Stocks, Kyle Smith of Stover picked up the win over point leader Will Register of Sedalia. Rodger Detherage of Smithton was third with Bridget Clifford of California fourth.
Weekly action will continue next Sunday July 31st with the sprints, street stocks and hobby stocks being joined by the ULMA Late Models, who will be making their second appearance of 2011 at Double X. Brandon Imhoff picked up the win during their initial appearance. Admission will be $12 with pit passes costing $25. Gates will open at 5:00 with hot laps at 7:00 and racing at 7:30. Carpenter, Cressley, Wirts, and Melby Take Wins at Double-X Speedway
July 17, 2011
By: Chad Buford
California, MO- Taking his first Mr. G’s 360 sprint car win of the season, Lanny Carpenter wired the field at Double X Speedway Sunday night.
The first start would see Dakota Carroll and T.J. Muths getting together on the front stretch with both hitting the inside wall and suffering heavy damage. During the red flag, point leader Tyler Blank would go to the pits with driveline problems.
Once green, Carpenter set the pace and was chased by two-time feature winner Cody Baker. The pair set a torrid pace and moved away from the rest of the field until spins by Miranda Arnold and Tyler Elliott in turn one slowed the action on lap seven.
Carpenter would again be chased by Baker once racing resumed as Evan Martin and Chad Corken followed the lead pair.
Baker remained within striking distance of Carpenter until he came to a stop in turn four with a blown right rear tire on lap eighteen ending his evening.
Carpenter would go unchallenged the rest of the way in his Sierra Pool and Spas/Beeline Snack Shop J&J with Engine Connection power. Martin ran second in his Heidbreder Foundation/Jefferson Asphalt Maxim with Buzzard power. Corken ran a strong third in his Wesmar-powered Maxim. Adam Jones, in his first race back since a serious automobile accident a few months ago, finished fourth in the Dennis Jones Wireless Horizon/Harry J’s Steakhouse JEI with Hovis power. Rounding out the top five was Taylor Walton in the family Aaron’s sponsored sprinter.
In the Cooper Racing street stocks, Tipton’s Tim Cressley won his first race of the year after a tough battle with California’s John Clancy and Henley’s Andrew Roark. Clancy would end up finishing second while Roark would fade to fifth at the end. California’s Jim Wheatley ran third and California’s James Keeran was fourth.
In Robbie D’s hobby stock action, California’s A.J. Wirts picked up his second win of the season in the XX car. He was followed by Eldon’s Chris Brockert and Smithton’s Rodger Detherage. Points leader Will Register of Sedalia was fourth and California’s Rudy Wirts rounded out the top five.
Sedalia’s Cole Melby took top honors in the 600 micro midgets. He was followed by Columbia’s Dean Hathman and Blake David of Fulton. Corey Nelson of Eugene was fourth and Jefferson City’s Kyle Schlotz rounded out the top five.
Next week, the ASCS Warrior region sprint cars will return for the 9th Annual Clyde Wood Memorial. The tight point race in the ASCS division and the increased purse of $2000 to win with $250 to start the "A" feature should provide big names and action packed competition . The sprints will be joined by the street stocks, hobby stocks, and 600 micros. Admission $15 - Pit Passes $25. Gates will open early for tailgating. Admission gates will open at 5:00 with hot laps at 7:00 and racing at 7:30. Updated points and contact information can be found at www.xxspeedway.com.

Bellm, Clancy, and Wirts Score Wins at Double X
7-3-2011
By: Chad Buford
California, MO(July3, 2011)- Keeping himself in contention throughout the race, Kyle Bellm took advantage of other contender’s misfortunes to win his first career Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region race Sunday night at Double X Speedway.
Evan Martin led the field to the green on lap one as current Warrior point leader Brad Loyet did a 360 in between turns one and two to bring out the yellow.
Once green, Martin again led followed by Taylor Walton and Mark Shirshekan. With one lap in the books, action would come to a halt for a Cody Baker flip in turn three that also involved R.J. Johnson. Baker was done for the night, but Johnson would continue.
With another lap completed, Austin Alumbaugh contacted the wall and came to a stop on the backstretch along with Jon Corbin sending both drivers to the pits.
On the restart, Josh Stephens was forced into the inside wall damaging his front end and ending his night.
Finally green again, Martin led and was followed by Walton. The lead duo would stay this way until lap nine when Walton rode the cushion past Martin.
Walton would lead the next two laps until he got too high and hit the wall rolling to a stop in turn three with damage to his right rear.
Martin inherited the lead and on the restart Shirshekan pressured him for the top spot. Bellm and Jonathan Cornell were also having a very good battle for the third spot and just behind them, Loyet had moved back up to fifth from the tail.
Loyet was able to get by Bellm for fourth on lap nineteen and by lap twenty one, Cornell worked his way past Shirshekan for second.
Misfortune would hit the lead trio on lap twenty four. Martin looped his car in turn one and left Cornell with nowhere to go. Cornell climbed over the top of Martin’s car and rolled to a stop on the backstretch. Loyet, who was up to third, also was involved and would inherit the lead with a deflating tire.
On the restart, Bellm shot by Loyet and went on to the victory in the Jeff and Jerry Smith Maxim powered by a Jeff Smith motor. Shirshekan ran second in his Wesmar-powered Cooper Racing Products J&J, while Tyler Blank was the night’s hard charger moving up eleven spots to finish third in his Blank’s Backhoe GF1 powered by a Patriot motor. Sean McClelland was fourth and Lanny Carpenter rounded out the top five. Randy Martin was sixth, while Loyet held on to seventh. Johnson rebounded from his earlier incident to finish eighth while Bryan Grimes and Curtis Boyer rounded out the top ten. Heats for the 29 car field were won by Bellm, Loyet, Grimes, and McClelland, while Corbin won the B Main.
John Clancy of California picked up his fifth win of the season in the Cooper Racing street stocks. He was followed by Ray Smith of Centertown and Tim Cressley of Tipton. Curtis Turpin of Jefferson City and Dale Berry of Tuscumbia rounded out the top five.
A.J. Wirts of California picked up his first win in the Robbie D’s hobby stocks. He was followed by Sedalia’s Will Register and California’s Bridget Clifford. Centertown’s Seth Jacobs and Alma’s Jeff Buford rounded out the top five.

June 19, 2011
It was a show just for dad on Father’s Day at Double X Speedway, as the track featured the regular Street Stock, Hobby Stock, and Winged Sprint classes and welcomed the B Modifieds for yet another week of rip-roaring racing.
In the first feature race of the night, Andrew Roark of Henley shot straight to the front of the Street Stocks. It was yet another battle between Harlan Dowell of Tipton, John Clancy, Jr. of California, and Kevin Caldwell of Tipton for the top spots as they clashed and thrashed around the track. After a series of cautions put numerous race leaders to the back of the pack, it was “Crazy Ray” Ray Smith of Centertown who ultimately took the lead and the checkered. Caldwell and Dowell, both of Tipton, took the second and third finishes, respectively, followed by Gary Foxworthy of Eldon and Curtis Turpin, Jefferson City. Caldwell and Roark were heat winners.
The Hobby Stock feature race pitted pole sitter A.J. Wirts of California and Will Register of Sedalia against each other for the top spot, as the two made their way around the track, Wirts out front. Soon, Register captured the top spot, creating a battle between Wirts and Chase Fischer of Jefferson City for the top three finishes. A series of cautions prompted both Wirts and Fischer to exit the race, bringing Centertown's Seth Jacobs and Bridget Clifford of California up to challenge Register. However, it was Register who took yet another feature win at Double X Speedway, Jacobs and Clifford following up behind with Alma's Jeff Buford and Rudy Wirts of California rounding out the top five. Heat winners were Wirts and Register.
The Father’s Day B Modifieds race proved to be an exciting time for fathers and race fans of all sorts as Larry Winn of Hallsville shot straight to the front, leading the pack of open-wheeled cars. A fierce battle ensued for the top spots, as Lonnie Wyman, Jr. of Ham's Prairie, Oak Grove's Jacob Ebert, Don Cox of Holt's Summit, and Fulton's Bub Wilcox continued to trade places around the track. Columbia's Adam Hall also worked his way into the mix. It was Wyman, Jr. who took the checkered, beating out Winn by just a nose, who had lead nineteen of twenty laps. Ebert, Hall, and Cox rounded out the top five, respectively. Wyman and Winn each won heats.
Evan Martin Claims First Career Feature Victory at Double-X Speedway
June 5, 2011
Evan Martin Claims Evan Martin, son of Randy Martin, picks up his first career feature win Sunday night at Double-X Speedway. While running in third for majority of the race Evan saw the chance he has worked so hard to achieve with Jonathan Cornell hitting the wall coming out of turn two and collecting Brad Loyet. There he gained control of the remainder of the race. With the track being black and slick, patience was Evan’s only chance. With only a few laps left and tension building the checkered flag was dropped. As Evan exited the car he was congratulated by his father (winner of last week's "Tribute to Jesse" memorial race) and there Randy was able to give his son his first ever Feature Winner sticker. Heat winners were E. Martin and Cornell.
Randy Martin won his first A.S.C.S. Warrior region feature at Double-X Speedway during the "Tribute to Jesse" memorial race May 29, 2011.From the flying of the green flag, the Street Stock feature race proved to be an exciting one, as John Clancy, Jr. of California, Harlan Dowell and Tim Cressley, both of Tipton, came around the corner three wide. With Dowell pulling out in front, it was Clancy and Cressley battling for the second spot. After eight laps and a caution, Cressley and Clancy both pulled ahead of Dowell, with Cressley in the lead. As the battle ensued it was Clancy who took the checkered over Cressley with Dowell finishing in third. Heat winners were Dowell and Cressley.
The Hobby Stock feature race proved to be an interesting one, with brothers Chase and Devin Fischer of Jefferson City leading the way. Boonville's Daniel Cary made his way to fourth position behind Ralph Booth, Jr. of Eldon who was in third. After a battle with Cary to hold his position, Booth had to exit the race after a caution, leaving Cary the third place spot. Smooth sailing followed, as the Fischer brothers held their positions with Chase taking the checkered Devin right behind and Cary in third. The Fischer brothers also won the heat races.
